hi
Let us resuscitate this forum with some questions about your new product. At the time of writing is still probably not properly unleashed in what it can really do or if it is only a Groovebox ( drums only ) or any chance for any of the Tracks to Play Polyphonically ect.. Iām glad to know that it is open source for new āpluginsā to be installed ect.. smart move. So wait to know the distribution ETA of it. : )
Hi there,
great idea to open a thread. We would love to get your feedback and feature requests.
Happy to answer questions after Superbooth.
J
Very exciting synth.
With the MCL port is the option of running machines. Say MLC connected to the machinedrum with all the TBD machines available to be used?
Thanks for your reply, like I stated on my post I was not exactly sure about functionalities and such behind the quick specs initially avail. But now with the official doc I have a better picture of the TBD-16 and Iām sure there will be demos and Iāll be waiting for the reserve email to arrive ![]()
I need to talk to Justin about this.
He spend some very long days on getting our DSP Backend to work with the MCL. Not sure if parallel use of our DSP Backend + MD is already working. But I guess thats TBD ![]()
Please keep the ideas coming. I will try to prepare some tool to vote / collect for a roadmap in the upcoming days.
Thanks for the quick reply. Would be fantastic if the mcl was open ended and users could add in their own machines.
For example: i have an extended md UW ram and play machine mocked up by claude that would be fun to port over.
Canāt wait for it to be availableā![]()
Looking forward to vote for cool stuff.
My first feature wishes would be sampling and internal resampling and a slicer.
Are you by any chance in contact with airwindows or Ess/fors?
Would be amazing to have their stuff ported.
Excited for this, megacommand being included makes it an easy buy.
Iām a huge supporter of open code but I do think it would be great to be able to support vendors selling their own apps into this hardware. A rich community of different people making money from selling great firmware on great open hardware is good for all, and morally / vibeswise very different to rent-seeking behaviour from one vendor.
Like many people Iād love to see firmware from someone like ess on this device. Hopefully an honour system for paid software downloads is enough, without obstructive copyright protection, in such a niche space.
love this idea, my email is already on the list.
a couple of questions:
-i couldnāt find any documentation of the mentioned powerbank āholsterā can you share any drawings or pictures? is it simply a holder for a powerbank which gets connected to the usb c power input? tbh i would have preferred an internal solution, albeit one that is still user-removable. having a cable plugged in and tossing it in a bag means a lot of strain on the port..
-about that track/machine matrix, how fixed is that? iām asking because the machines that are of most interest to me (wavetable, rings and plaits) are only available on the same single track, which is a shame. if feasible cpu-wise, iād prefer a more open architecture (ideally every machine possible on every channel), but i understand if thatās not possible given the power available.
-rings is really cool with other sound sources. what about a rings bus track concept through which the other channels could be routed?
-about modulation, just skimming the manual it wasnāt entirely clear to me how many lfos per track there are. is there in theory an lfo for every instrument parameter per track? that would be amazing.
overall i think itās a really promising design and iām a huge supporter of all things open source.
- About the Powerbank mount. Please check the imagesā¦
Sorry not press ready
As you can see the cable is plugged into the USB-C Power port in the back. But only for usage of the device. The cable is integrated in the Powerbank and can be plugged to be hidden while carrying the device.

About that Matrix⦠Machines | dadamachines/docs you mentioned.
We are well aware that it isnāt ideal to have everything on Track 12. But to be honest that is only due to the fact that we added the machines step by step over the past month⦠We are already having test version that allows all Synth on all Synth Tracks 9-16 And all Drums on all Drums Tracks 1-8 > plus Romplers on all Tracks. And also a Version that allows every Machine on every Track.
Superbooth was for demonstration purposes and we had a different firmware on every Device for User testing⦠watching what work for people and what doesnāt
Now we are looking to collect feedback from People who are interested and how we can integrate the feedback in the first production release. -
Currently there a LFO / Random Automation for each Parameter⦠we will try to keep it that way. But I canāt promise anything right now. But of course we are interested to deliver the best possible Device & Firmware - yet of course things must always work stable and not crash. Good news here is that since we are testing with a group of about 10 people for about 1 year now. We havenāt seen many crashes anymore the past couple of month.
We already have a lot of things public if you are starting to look for it. We will clean that up over the next couple of weeks to reduce the risk of confusing people. As the docs page is really very much my work in progress writing documentation for myself and the testers we work with for the Groovebox.
For you and everyone else⦠Please keep the questions coming. As that really helps us to deliver good communication.
Best, J
thanks for the reply, i love the design of that battery backpack.
very good to hear that there is a possibility that i get to have several wavetable synths in one song.
will read up some more and post questions here.
First: loooove the project, hope preorder opens soon and delivery is before Christmas ![]()
Would it be possible to route external audio through all 16 tracks (or at least more than 1), to truly make it a āeffect pedalā? Would be nice to be able to cascade more than the track FX (1 per track?) + Master del/rev
so iāve read through the doc. some questions that popped up:
considering the hardware:
-will usb audio at be available at some point?
-will the hardware be the one described in docs and are the pictures of prototypes? the location of the ports donāt match.
-can the usb c ports also supply power?
-can it stream samples directy from sd like dirtywave or 1010 devices? i know the rompler in the groovebox uses the psram.
considering the groovebox app:
-what is the max sample length of the rompler?
-there are only two send effects for 16 tracks, thatās not a lot and i wonder if more send effects will be available at some point?
i have to say, the more i read about it, the less reasons i have for not buying one. seems like a really nifty device which will pair well with my m8. very versatile too with third party apps and such⦠keep up the good work.
Most of all, is there an approximate date this interesting device will become officially available?
considering the hardware:
-will usb audio at be available at some point?
We are looking into it. Technically it is possible. We already got Stereo Audio Interface mode workingā¦But not integrated with the Groovebox Firmware. We will do more tests to know what can be done.
We just received new PCBs last week which are supposed to have more reliable USB as the ESP32-P4 chip revision of our last prototypes was quite old.
-will the hardware be the one described in docs and are the pictures of prototypes? the location of the ports donāt match.
I didnāt have time to integrate the labels in our renderings. Once I have done that I will add the new pictures to the docs.
-can the usb c ports also supply power?
No. The two USB-C Ports in the back can both be used to for Power Supply. But not to supply Power to a external device. For that you need to use the USB-A Port on the front. Also with a Hub. But the maximum rating here is 500 mA > with protection so you can use more than that.
-can it stream samples directy from sd like dirtywave or 1010 devices? i know the rompler in the groovebox uses the psram.
Not yet. And probably not in the first release we are aiming for.
But the hardware can do it. So it is only a question of firmware.
considering the groovebox app:
-what is the max sample length of the rompler?
Currently the total sample capacity is about 6 Minutes 44.1kHz / 16bit wav for the PSRAM but you can change kits between projects.
-there are only two send effects for 16 tracks, thatās not a lot and i wonder if more send effects will be available at some point?
Some engines have their own filters etc⦠But we are looking into changing the architecture of the engines. Our first goal was showing the device at Superbooth and get feedback.
Just coming back from Superbooth where we have communicated ā2 Month until releaseā.
We are now aligning that with our internal plans for the firmware roadmap > which is also impacted by the feedback we got already and still getting. And also with our Partners for production + the Dealers we work with.
I hope to share a more detailed plan / answer beginning of next week.
Great update, thanks Johannes! Mind commenting on my post above āā¦Would it be possible to route external audio through all 16 tracks (or at least more than 1), to truly make it a āeffect pedalā? Would be nice to be able to cascade more than the track FX (1 per track?) + Master del/revā
Sorry I wonāt get into detail here.
But this page might already give you a hint ![]()
The Groovebox Firmware is our #1 Priority right now - next to rock solid hardware.
Beyond that ā the Future is TBD!
Wonderful, good enough for a project tbd ![]()
