There has been an insane amount of change since Superbooth
The future for hacking this box looks pretty bright. We’ve kept most of the development private for now so we could focus on getting the architecture and core firmware right, rather than already moderating lots of pull requests and different directions.
But I’ve tried to incorporate as much of the feedback and wishlist from Superbooth and the forum as possible.
I really hope some creative minds find a home around the platform. And especially with the recent discussions around hacking music hardware: with TBD, this is something we want to actively embrace.
I’m also wondering if I should host an informal group call before shipping / pre-orders open, to show where things are and talk with people interested in developing for it.
I don’t really monitor what happens at Schwung to be honest.
If you got stuff that would be interesting. Please send it my way.
I am hopefully meeting with @charlesv soon. He is obviously better informed than me with Schwung developments.
It really really depends on the module. The Move runs a Pi CM4, a different architecture and much more powerful raw processing than the TBD-16. I took a stab at porting NuSaw as a machine and will look at some others, but I think it’s definitely case by case and it’s not just a simple rebuild. If there are particular ones though, call them out, maybe they’re “easy”.
Hi @delanochls So far we don’t have slicing inside of the Rompler. But you can lock the steps and have a different region / sample on every step. Also we got different time-stretching algorithms also with the option to sync.
Ok cool that works too! Maybe you guys will add with a later update? But thank you for answering my question! Hope this little power machine comes out soon!
I’m happy about every feature request, and I keep track of what people would like to see. Things that come up more often are naturally more likely to get built.
And once the TBD-16 is shipping, you’ll also be able to add features you’re missing yourself — and maybe some of those will find their way back into the main firmware for everyone.
I hope this makes the TBD-16 something that can keep evolving and stay useful for many years.
Super stoked about this little machine. I’m curious to hear about the progress, and wondering if it’s still to soon to say something more specific about the release date?
We’re currently wrapping up the firmware release candidate together with artists who are testing it, and pre-orders should open very soon.
dadamachines is still a one-person studio in Berlin, so I don’t want to promise an exact shipping date before production and supply are fully lined up.
Hi ! can’t wait to get my hands on this one ^^ is it going to have a chord mode? a resampling feature? and a polyphonic sample playback? like being able to play a rhodes sample in polyphony ;)) thank you
